Here are the latest rankings of the top classical music blogs, courtesy of Wikio. Most of the usual suspects return to the rankings this month, and although I'm pleased to see CPB moving up 3 spots to 13th spot, it's a welcome surprise to see Erica Sipes' blog charging up the standings to 20th place.

Congratulations to both of you! :)

ReplyDeleteI'm always a bit skeptical of rankings, especially when they're not accompanied by an explanation of how they are derived or, like Wikio's rankings, an explanation of how they might be used.
ReplyDeleteBack in October of last year, I asked Wikio about the basis for these rankings. They told me that they're ranked according to the number and weight of links from other blogs and Twitter. They also separate rankings by territory, so this list does not include blogs from outside the US.
Yes, that agrees with the information that Wikio gave me about where they get their rankings, which I believe is quite heavily Twitter-weighted. I would disagree about Wikio's ratings being strictly non-US, as I write the Collaborative Piano Blog from Canada (most of the time). That explains the absence of hugely influential blogs such as Norman Lebrecht's Slipped Disc, which would almost certainly score in the top 3 of this list.
