There's music in the frakkin' walls...an 1877 rosewood Steinway from the Royal Conservatory's instrument archive developed a cracked soundboard. Since the instrument was unplayable, KPMB Architects arranged for it to be mounted on the Evelyn and Burt Lavis Promenade just outside Koerner Hall. Here's a video of its installation:
Cool story and video.
ReplyDeleteWhat will be displayed in the other half of the case?

Good question. When I walked by a few days ago, the other half was still empty.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised they could not replace the soundboard... looks like a beautiful instrument worth restoring. By the way, what was the piece being played on the soundtrack? Sounded a bit like Moszkowski but it was not familiar to me. Very charming.
ReplyDeleteNice story, really !
