Repertoire List For Weeks 1-3 at Bowdoin

Here is the repertoire I've been playing for the last 3 weeks at the Bowdoin International Music Festival. It might seem like a huge list for three weeks but in reality it's about average for what a staff pianist will play in three weeks of a summer music festival.

Brahms Sonata for Violin and Piano Op. 108
Clarke Sonata for Viola and Piano 1st mov't
Dvorak Violin Concerto 1st mov't
Elgar Cello Concerto 3rd mov't
Hubay Hullamzo Ballaton
Kreisler Zigeunerweisen
Mozart Violin Concertos #3, 4, 5
Mozart Piano and Violin Sonata K. 305
Ravel Tzigane
Saint-Saens/Ysaye Valse Caprice
Saint-Saens Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso
Schumann a- Sonata for Violin and Piano Op. 105
Shostakovich 1st Cello Concerto (1st and 2nd mov't)
Shostakovich Violin Concerto (3rd and 4th mov'ts)

  1. So how do you like that Schumann sonata? 3rd mvmt staccatissimo!! I played that bear this year; it almost wrecked me. Anyway, very impressive balancing act keeping that list together.

  2. Josh, the hardest part for me is the RH A minor descending arpeggio in the last few bars. Just when you think you've made it through the movement, that simple arpeggio can burn you right at the end.
