By the time the well-known journalist, novelist, cultural commentator, and Globe and Mail columnist Russell Smith spoke, the crowd had reached at least 250 by my estimate. Kudos to everyone that showed up in the cold and rainy weather outside the CBC building, including a fair number of students from both the University of Toronto and Royal Conservatory of Music. After Russell Smith spoke, I filmed less than a minute of composer James Rolfe's speech when my camera's card registered that it was full. Other speakers on Friday included Ivars Taurins of Tafelmusik and composer Ruth Watson Henderson.
