What? Hearing Bach played on keyboard instruments isn't good enough?
Link to free MP3 downloads of David Grossman's arrangements for electric bass
The 12 selections on the download page are really very fine. For those in the Berkeley area, you can catch a few of these arrangements live at Solo Bass Night III at the Freight & Salvage Coffee House on Friday, May 18th.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot for the plug! While some of the solo works I play have been arranged for keyboard by Bach and other composers, I am playing the original Solo Violin and Solo Cello versions. At Solo Bass Night III, I will be playing Sonata No. 1 in G minor for Solo Violin BWV 1001 on my 7-string electric bass. At Solo Bass Night II, I played Cello Suite No. 5 in C minor BWV 1011 and at the first Solo Bass Night I played Partita No. 2 in D minor for Solo Violin.
I am currently practicing all six solo violin and all six solo cello works and the solo flute partita.
I may play a looped version of the first Goldberg Variation also.
I'd really like to play out a lot more and get these works perfected better before recording them. Those recordings are pretty old and one of them is the live recording from Solo Bass Night 1 which didn't turn out so well (performance-wise).
Thanks a lot for your support. I'm glad I found your site (I was searching for Solo Bass Night III references).
Sincerely,
Dave
Thanks for the info, Dave. Keep in touch when you've recorded the Bach and best of luck on Solo Bass Night III. I'm genuinely bummed that I'm on the other side of the continent and won't be able to get to it.
ReplyDeleteHi again,
ReplyDeleteSolo Bass Night III turned out very well. I have a recording of my set at:

I'll have some video from SBN3 up soon, I hope.
Thanks again for your interest and comments.
