Lotte Lehmann Foundation's 2008 CyberSing Winners Announced

The Lotte Lehmann Foundation has announced the winners of its 2008 CyberSing Art Song Competition. Congratulations go out to Allen Perriello for winning the prize for best collaborative pianist. The singers who won awards are Joshua Quinn, John Brancy, Courtney Cacopardo, and Heidi Sauser in Division One (23 and under), and Laura Stuart, Marshall Dean, and Brooke Evers in Division Two (over 23). Allen Perriello has also been selected as a 2009 Adler Fellow at the San Francisco Opera Center. His bio from a SF Opera press release:
Coach and accompanist Allen Perriello, a first-year Adler fellow, is an alumnus of the 2008 Merola Opera Program. Professional engagements include Opera Cleveland, Rising Star Opera Theater, and Ash Lawn Opera. His other coaching credits include Hänsel und Gretel, Albert Herring, La Bohème, Dido and Aeneas, Miss Lonelyhearts, Amahl and the Night Visitors, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Werther, L'enfant et les Sortileges, L'Elisir d'Amore, The Merry Widow, West Side Story, and The Consul. Perriello served as chorus master for Cincinnati Conservatory of Music's productions of La Bohème and L'Elisir d'Amore. The Gibsonia, PA native holds a master's degree in collaborative piano from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and a bachelor's degree in piano performance and music education from Ithaca College.

2008 Christina and Louis Quilico Awards

The Ontario Arts Federation is now accepting applications for singers interested in competing for the Christina and Louis Quilico Awards. The competition is open to Canadian citizens residing or studying in Ontario, or from Ontario studying elsewhere, between age 20-35 as of 1/1/2008. The OAF site has links to competition guidelines and applications. The deadline for applications is November 16, 2007.

Past awards recipients have included sopranos Sonja Gustafson, Sinead Sugrue, and Miriam Khalil, mezzo soprano Ramona Carmelly, tenor Lawrence J. Wilford, and baritones Philip Carmichael and Justin Welsh.

2008 NATS Artist Awards Competition Info

The National Association of Teachers of Singing is now accepting applications the NATSAA 2008 Artist Awards Competition for Singers. This is the 40th year of the competition, with currently a $5,000 first prize, $4,000 second prize and numerous NATS Foundation prizes and awards for finalists and semifinalists.

Singers interested in applying should fill out the application form, which must be received by the NATS Executive Office along with payment by November 16, 2007. Be sure to consult the rules and regulations and audition dates (most of which are TBA at present). The semi-final and final rounds will be held on June 26 and 27, 2008 at the NATS Convention in Nashville, Tenessee. Best of luck to all applicants in this prestigious competition!
